YIN-YANG In Our Life

In reality, everything is made up of two opposing forces: Yin and Yang. There are many differences between Yin and Yang, but neither of their energies are good or bad. The aspects that are related to each energy are all present in a person, and must be balanced to avoid dysfunction.

Most things in life are a bit of both concepts. When the sun goes up and its bright it´s Yang but when the sun goes down and it´s dark, then it becomes Yin. Heat is Yang, but when it´s cold, it´s Yin. Yin is connected with feminine energy (the right side of the Body, if you are right-handed), Yang is connected with masculine energy (left side of the Body, if you are left-handed).

How to find out if you are right- or left-handed?

Clap your hands together and if you right-handed person, you clap your right hand into your left hand. If you are a left-handed person you clap your left hand into your right hand. A retrained right-hander, originally left-handed, claps both hands together at the same time. (That´s what I am). And I just found out some months ago, that I actually supposed to be a left-hander.

The Yin symbolizes Earth energy that is grounded, dark and receptive. It´s linked to the moon, seas and shade and it´s connected with feminine energy.

Yin themes are:

  • Intuitive

  • Quiet

  • Passive

  • Softness

  • Contraction

  • Stillness

The Yang symbolizes the sun: it´s bright, limitless, and occasionally reckless. It is connected with masculine energy.

Yang themes are:

  • Heat

  • Active

  • Logical

  • Movement

  • Growth

  • Action

  • Expansion

There are many benefits if we can find balance between Yin and Yang in our life, which includes the following:

  • Inner peace

  • A stronger sense of self-identity

  • Improved intuition

  • Elevated creativity

  • Whole-brain thinking (logic and intuition)

  • Reduced anxiety

  • A deep sense of well-being and completeness

How to find balance between Yin and Yang?

  • Nature - take a walk or a hike and absorb the chi of nature into yourself with every breath you take.

  • Water - water will rehydrate you and help flush out any toxins. I personally drink filtered and renatured water.

  • Nutrition - look for foods that are fresh or organic.

  • Bodywork - energy modalities like acupuncture and reiki will help to release the physical manifestations of stress and move your chi energetically through your body.

  • Breathwork - There are many breathing exercise techniques, that can help you balance the feminine-masculine (Yin and Yang) energy in your body and feel powerfully centred, strong and positive.

  • Meditation - find a time each day to quiet your mind.

  • Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong - movements help to balance body, mind, and spirit.
